| About the work |
Acrid stemmed from a feeling I had of conflict, of dirtying the pure or obscuring it, of contrast and collision, yet in some way of confluence. It was not a collision of the rigid, but the ethereal. It was a seething, smoky, polluted feeling, not like an angry young man has, but more like what comes after. It was my first time working with acrylic, so every choice was a bit of an experiment, but the initial feel and look of the piece came within the first few hours. Oddly I found myself working almost like an actor, using the feeling to create an action, the action leaving a mark on canvas; the feeling bringing an expression to my face, a taste, leading to the title.
